Lyrics in 2012 – Fun : We are young

This piece of crap is on the radio all the live long day and I cannot begin to describe my hatred for it. It is one of the worst songs I have ever heard, leaving me with suicidal contemplations as to why it is popular.

Sometimes during these little rants about shit lyrics I need to drag you around to my line of thinking. This latest abortion will need very little explanation as to why I find it so woefully stupid.

Give me a second I,
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State
My lover she’s waiting for me just across the bar
My seat’s been taken by some sunglasses asking ’bout a scar, and
I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you’re trying to forget
But between the drinks and subtle things
The holes in my apologies, you know
I’m trying hard to take it back
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Now I know that I’m not
All that you got
I guess that I, I just thought
Maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let’s raise a toast
‘Cause I found someone to carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Just carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Just carry me home tonight (Nananananana)

The moon is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight
The angels never arrived
But I can hear the choir
So will someone come and carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home tonight

Yes, those are lyrics to a song. I was just as shocked, I assure you.

Now, on the surface it seems like a little pop song about going out, having a few beers and meeting a girl. But I don’t see it that way. I have this curse you see…I hear all of the lyrics in songs and not just the happy-clappy sing along bits! It’s my cross to bear.

I can HEAR Jimi.

A “White Men Cant Jump” reference…who’d have seen that coming? I really put you readers on the edge of your seats don’t I? I am an entertainment roller-coaster. Anyways back to that shit song.

Now if you read the first line of that song again it says “Give me a second I need to get my story straight.” This guy then goes on to talk about a scar he gave to this girl months ago. He goes on to speak about the hole in his apologies and how if by the time the bar closes, and she feels like falling down drunk…he will carry her home tonight. So, call me crazy here but is he talking about date-raping a girl he has once beaten up? This song is f**ked up!

“So let’s set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun”. This must be where he assaults the girl. It just gets worse from here on.

“The moon is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight
The angels never arrived
But I can hear the choir
So will someone come and carry me home”.
So after he ruins this girls life he kills himself? Is that it? Is this what this song is about? A murder-suicide? I really struggle with popular music these days.

Seriously, this song is messed up. Children sing this song, children. The band is called FUN…what messed up world do they live in.

Drained it,
Steve
