Song of the Day: CSNY – Ohio

This song is one of my all time favorites. It’s by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young who were a super group back in the 60’s and 70’s. Young (Neil Young) went his own way and the group became CSN Crosby, Stills and Nash. I had to pleasure of seeing these guys play live 2 years ago in Cork. It was amazing, the harmony of their voices in unison is amazing. The song itself is a protest song about the Kent State massacre which saw 4 college students killed by military during a peaceful protest. They released the song within a couple of weeks of the shootings, so it’s possibly one of the most profound, apt songs ever written for the simple fact it was released when nerves were still raw over the incident.. I also got tweeted to by Graham Nash who’s solo work is awesome too. Military Madness and Simple Man are two more great songs. CSNY have albums worth of great songs like Dark Star, Cathedral, Our House, Woodstock etc. That’s also a cool thing, they played Woodstock and I got to see them live. Love it.

Also David Crosby has the greatest facial hair of all time!
